2The holy apostil Seynt John þe euaungeliste tellythe in þe gospel of this day, of the maner of seyng þat owre sauiowre Ihesu seyde vnto his discypils, seyng thus: Vado ad eum qui misit me, et cetera; “I go to hym that sent me.” The seyng of Criste thus is to vnderstond that he wolde ascende into heven, to the Fader to make redy the place of þe joyes of heven for vs, lyke as he had provydyd for vs when he was in þis present lyfe. For truly, and ȝe wyll take hede, ȝe schall [sey] and see that the grettest joye of this worlde is but a sympyll joye to the lest joyes that is celestiall. So gostly to owre purpose: be þis kyng is vnderstonde the kyng of heven, ffor he will that no man scholde drynke of þe swete wynne of blisse tyll he had dronken of the sowre wynne of sorow and tribulacion in this worlde. And þerfore it is seyde: Per multas tribulaciones oportet intrare in regnum celorum; “it is behovefull to a man to be suffryng of many
